FAQ
Q1 Why is supplier diversity important to MPC?
A1 Diverse suppliers are vital to MPC's overall mission. We believe that embracing businesses that are owned by individuals of diverse backgrounds helps us deliver the best product, with the greatest value, to our growing customer base. We also believe that diversity helps foster innovative, forward-thinking product and service solutions for our company and our customers.
Q2 How does MPC define a diverse supplier?
A2
We define a diverse supplier as a U.S.-based, public or private, for-profit enterprise that is certified by a third-party as a Small Business, Small Disadvantaged Business, Woman-owned Small Business, Veteran-owned Small Business, Historically Underutilized Business Zone, Minority Business Enterprise and/or Woman Business Enterprise.
For more information, visit our Classification Definitions page.
Q3 What if my company is not certified as a diverse supplier?
A3 If you are not a certified diverse supplier, determine if your company meets the guidelines to become certified set forth by the Small Business Administration and/or the National Minority Supplier Development Council.
Q4 How do I register my diverse company with MPC Supplier Diversity?
A4 Simply follow the registration procedure found in our How To Register section.
Q5 How does MPC Supplier Diversity work within MPC's procurement process?
A5
We promote diversity growth in MPC's supplier base through the following process:
  1. Work with commodity managers to identify upcoming, non-production and production procurement opportunities.
  2. Identify qualified, diverse suppliers to participate in upcoming procurement opportunities.
  3. Determine if a match exists between suppliers' capabilities and business requirements.
  4. Arrange a meeting between an identified diverse supplier and an MPC commodity manager to discuss the specific procurement opportunity, business requirements, and supplier capabilities.
Q6 How can I learn about potential procurement opportunities at MPC?
A6 Please visit our Procurement Opportunities page for specifics. We recommend you bookmark that site and return regularly as this information is often refreshed.
Q7 What if I registered with MPC Supplier Diversity, but have not yet been contacted for a procurement opportunity?
A7 That means the opportunity has not yet occurred, we do not have a need for the product/service your company provides, or a match between your company's product/service and our procurement needs has not been identified.
Q8 What are the next steps once MPC Supplier Diversity contacts my company about procurement opportunity?
A8 We will go through a screening process with a representative of your company to determine if a match exists between your capabilities and our business requirements. If we determine your company's capabilities are aligned with our business requirements, your will be invited to competitively bid for a business award.
Q9 May I directly contact MPC commodity managers for a particular procurement opportunity?
A9 We ask our diverse suppliers to contact the Supplier Diversity group directly for information about procurement opportunities and related matters.
Q10 What resources are available for more information about diverse businesses?
